Huge Kudos to Urban for tremendous research and bringing this subject to life in the English language. The history of the Teutonic Knights is fascinating, from the Crusades, to the Conquest of Prussia and large parts of the Baltics, wars with medieval pagans deep in Lithuanian forests, and even their decline at the hands of Poles, Ivan the Terrible -- and even the teachings of Martin Luther/5.

A BULKY volume, containing a very full and distinct outline of the constitutional history of England, from the Teutonic conquest to the recent election of the late John Mitchell for Tipperary, will compel any one who has the work under his notice to consider the utility of text-books composed on so large a scale.

I assume you a book written in English. Most books on this topic are in Polish and German, with a few in other East European languages. Some years ago, I read a book about the conquest of Old Prussia by the Teutonic Order, co-authored by German and Polish historians - as close as you will ever get to an objective account.

Freeman, published between and Recognised by critics as a major work of scholarship on its first publication, it has since proved unpopular with readers, many of whom were put off by its enormous length and copious detail.

The conceptions of history have been almost as numerous as the men who have written history. To Augustine Birrel history is a pageant; it is for the purpose of satisfying our curiosity.

Under the touch of a literary artist the past is to become living again. Like another Prospero the historian waves his wand, and the deserted streets of Palmyra sound of the tread of artisan and officer. CHAPTER I.

The English people are a nation and an ethnic group native to England who speak the English language, and share a common history and English identity is of early medieval origin, when they were known in Old English as the Angelcynn ('family of the Angles').
